Vishnu Pulipaka
Researcher in multilingual & low-resource NLP. M.S. Data Science, Montclair State University

I study how language models learn, represent, and transfer knowledge across languages when training data is limited, with a focus on Indic languages: Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. I have trained causal language models from scratch for four Dravidian languages and, with Prof. Libby Barak at Montclair State University, built BabyLM-scale training corpora for Hindi and Telugu through machine translation.
My longer-term goal is to extend multilingual intelligence into embodied and edge AI systems that can understand people across languages. Alongside research, I work on LLM systems for network intelligence at WorldLink US, and I previously built backend and ML systems as a software engineer. I hold an M.S. in Data Science from Montclair State University and a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Sreenidhi Institute of Science and Technology.
Research Interests
- Multilingual and low-resource NLP for Indic languages
- Cross-lingual transfer and small language models
- Embodied multilingual intelligence (future direction)
- Language variation: dialects, scripts, and tokenization
- Efficient language models for constrained hardware
